Ryota ski touring in Central Hokkaido

The practical details about private backcountry ski and fly fishing trips with Ryota in Central Hokkaido.

If your question is specific to your group or dates, send an inquiry. Ryota plans each trip through direct conversation.

Who is Ryota Sato?

Ryota is a private backcountry ski and fly fishing guide born and raised in Furano. He guides throughout Central Hokkaido and speaks both English and Japanese.

Are Raven Outdoors trips private?

Yes. All trips are private and planned around your group. Raven Outdoors does not combine separate bookings into open group tours.

Where are trips based?

Raven Outdoors is based in the Furano area and guides across Central Hokkaido. The exact destination is selected according to current conditions, the group's ability and how motivated the group is for the day.

Is transport included?

Ryota provides transport from the Furano area to the day's skiing or fishing destination. Meeting details are confirmed directly before the trip.

How is the destination chosen each day?

Daily locations are selected according to conditions, the group's skill level and the kind of day the group wants. The goal is to make a good decision for the day rather than force a fixed destination.

What experience is required for backcountry skiing?

Trips are best suited to confident skiers and snowboarders who can handle variable snow and a full touring day. Raven Outdoors provides private guiding and local knowledge rather than a beginner instruction program.

What do I need to bring for a ski trip?

Clients are responsible for bringing their touring equipment, avalanche safety equipment and food or snacks for the day. Specific equipment requirements are confirmed during trip planning.

Are fly fishing trips fly-only?

Yes. Raven Outdoors guides fly fishing only. Trips are intended for anglers who already have basic casting and fishing experience rather than people looking for a general sightseeing activity.

Are full-day and multi-day trips available?

Yes. Private full-day and multi-day options are available for both backcountry skiing and fly fishing. Multi-day trips allow the plan to adjust as conditions change.

Is accommodation included?

No. Accommodation is booked and governed separately by Wakaranai Lodge or whichever accommodation provider you choose. Raven Outdoors' guiding payment and cancellation terms apply only to the guiding booking.

How do I book?

Send an inquiry by email or WhatsApp with your dates, group size, experience and what you want from the trip. Availability, pricing and trip details are confirmed directly before a booking is accepted.

What are the payment terms?

A 50% deposit is required to confirm a booking. The remaining 50% is due on the day of a single-day trip or on day one of a multi-day trip. Payment by Wise is preferred, and PayPal is also accepted.

What is the cancellation policy?

For cancellations made by the client 90 or more days before the trip, the deposit is refunded in full. For cancellations 30 to 89 days before the trip, 50% of the deposit is refunded. For cancellations fewer than 30 days before the trip, the deposit is non-refundable. This policy applies to ski, fly fishing and multi-day guiding bookings.

Should I have travel insurance?

Yes. Travel insurance is strongly recommended. Clients should make sure their policy covers the activities they are booking, including backcountry skiing or fly fishing where applicable.
