Backcountry Ski Guiding in Central Hokkaido
Private backcountry ski guide services in Central Hokkaido, based out of Furano, guiding across the zones that make this region special. We offer expert ski touring in Hokkaido for experienced skiers who want uncrowded Hokkaido backcountry skiing without the lift lines and skin track traffic jams.
We guide backcountry skiing, ski touring, and sidecountry access. Whether it's human-powered touring days, lift-accessed sidecountry, or a mix of both, we match the approach to conditions and what you want to experience.
Who It's For
Designed for confident skiers and riders who want to travel well, move efficiently, and make good decisions. We'll keep it approachable, but this isn't a beginner instruction program. It's a private day for people who are already capable.
Best suited to confident, capable clients who already know what they're doing. We guide people who want support and local knowledge, not basic instruction. If you're comfortable in variable snow, can handle a full touring day, and value good decisions over ego, this is for you.
Our Approach
We guide backcountry skiing, ski touring, and sidecountry access. The goal is finding the best skiing for the conditions and what you want to experience. Some days might be full touring days. Others might incorporate lift access to get to backcountry terrain more efficiently, or focus on sidecountry zones that require local knowledge to access safely.
This means volcanic terrain, alpine zones, tree lines, and everything in between. We match the intensity of the group and the conditions. Whether you want to tour all day, use lifts to access sidecountry, or do a bit of both, we choose what makes sense for the day.
Why Central Hokkaido
Furano as a base gives you options. You're not locked into one scene. We choose the zone based on weather, snow, and what kind of day you want. Central Hokkaido offers more spread, more choice, more quiet than the more obvious destinations.
Central Hokkaido is where you go when you want the Hokkaido experience without waiting in line, including the skin track line. We guide in the Furano area, Asahidake, Tokachidake, Daisetsuzan, Tomamu, Sahoro, and beyond. The flexibility to move between zones based on conditions is what makes this region special.
What a Day Looks Like
- •Meet in Furano (or coordinate in Central Hokkaido). We'll discuss conditions and goals
- •Pick a zone based on weather, snow, and what kind of day you want
- •Tour, ride, and keep the day flowing: we match the pace and intensity of the group
- •Debrief and plan next moves: for multi-day trips, we'll adjust based on conditions and how the day went
Full-Day and Multi-Day Options
We offer both full-day and multi-day backcountry ski trips in Hokkaido. Full-day trips give you a proper day in one zone. Multi-day trips let you chase the best conditions and explore different areas of Central Hokkaido.
For multi-day trips, we can homebase out of Wakaranai Lodge (partner lodge) for a quieter, more curated rhythm. This gives you flexibility to adjust plans based on weather windows and conditions. Visit Wakaranai Lodge Winter →
If you're the type of group that wants a private day focused on the skiing, with a true local guide, we'd like to hear from you.
